SAUPEILAA is the Cantonese phonetic spelling of a slang meaning 'knock it off'.

Amidst the noise of a changing world, we operate on a single principle: the only force that can truly end our heritage is our own silence. We choose to use our hands to keep our local language and memories alive, channeling this unyielding spirit into leathercrafts.

The SPL journey is born out of love for our most treasured home—Hong Kong. When you choose our pieces, you are not just holding a craft; you are helping to preserve our culture for generations to come.

Every piece is thoughtfully designed around its function and your daily routine, weaving our brand’s philosophy into the design. Through the LIONROCK series, we hope to infuse local Hong Kong culture into handcrafted leather.

From selecting materials, cutting, and skiving, to stitching and edge finishing, the journey involves dozens of steps. Every design goes through repeated prototyping to ensure both its aesthetic and durability before it reaches your hands. We hope you enjoy the warmth of a piece where design and craftsmanship meet.

To craft exceptional leather goods, precision is everything. We seek out premium tools from around the world to ensure clean cuts, exact proportions, and a refined finish. These same tools are shared with students in our workshops, offering a hands-on, authentic experience to help you create something truly beautiful.

The leather is just as carefully chosen. We gather only the highest grade, top-tier cuts from renowned Italian and French tanneries, offering a collection of over 70 distinct textures and colors. Whether you are ordering a bespoke piece or joining a workshop, you have the freedom to mix and match. Paired with high-quality imported hardware and thread carefully selected to complement the leather, these understated pieces are crafted to bring a quiet sense of ritual to your daily life.

Traditional Chinese characters are the heartbeat of Hong Kong’s culture. From the flow of each stroke to the evolution of glyphs, every character carries centuries of history.

The lead types we use for our leather embossing were originally crafted for letterpress printing—a heritage of over ten thousand individual characters, each carrying its own weight and soul. Unlike perfect digital prints, letterpress captured the typecasters’ artistry and the printer’s touch, giving every impression a raw, living texture.

We are dedicated to weaving this heritage into our designs. Our lead types are sourced from the world’s last standing Traditional Chinese type foundry. Today, as the original copper molds naturally wear down, the foundry is running against time to restore each character, striving to keep this craftsmanship and our language alive.
